Apple announced today, the Mac OS X Mountain Lion is due to ship in July for just $19.99. That’s about the same as 5 Starbucks lattes. The new OS will bring in a slew of applications and features available on the iPad and iPhone to the Mac. Some of the new features will include “dictation, a Power Nap feature which updates your streams while the Mac sleeps and a tabview feature associated with the Safari browser, which allows you to zoom in and out.

Apple has released golden master version of OS X Mountain Lion (version 10.8) – the ninth and next major release of OS X. Apple had released the back in February, which included over 100 new features. It includes include a number of popular apps and features such as Messages, Notes, Reminders, Game Center, Notification Center, Share Sheets, Twitter integration and AirPlay Mirroring from. OS X Mountain Lion will also be integrated with – Apple’s Cloud based service that was launched in October and is integrated with iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It also comes with a new security feature called Gatekeeper, which Apple says will give you control over which apps can be downloaded and installed on your Mac. Apple also announced some such as Dictation, iCloud Tabs and ‘Power Nap’.
The Golden Master version means that it is the shipping version of the software that developers must use to develop and submit apps that are compatible with OS X Mountain Lion. So following the release, Apple has also sent an email to developers requesting them to submit their apps compatible with Mountain Lion.
