I apologize if this is not the right section to post technical support. I'm having a hard time trouble connecting to my new external monitor. I have the MacBook Pro 2011 Core i5 with Intel3000 with OSx Lion. I am trying to connect it to the ASUS VH238H Monitor 23' I am using the HDMI port to connect to the monitor and my Mac detects the screen, but nothing is showing up on the screen saying that HDMI is not connected. I have tried the official Mini display port from apple and a third party mini display port.
The official one doesn't even show the monitor name while the third party show the monitor name but I am unable to connect. I have also tried Bootcamp to run Window but I am unable to get the screen. Then I bought my friend's laptop (Windows) over and connect it to HDMI and it worked perfectly fine. Do you have idea what the problem could be? I tried searching all over Google and the forums but no real answer.

I bought one of these monitors in mid-May and connected it to my MacBook that I bought Jan 2007. It worked OK until the other day. Now, I just get the message 'HDMI No Signal' and then monitor goes black.
Don't understand why all of a sudden, it does not work with MacBook like before. UPDATE Should have updated my post before. Turns out it was my doing.by accident.I finally realized that I must have accidentally clicked the button next to the On/Off button.
This other button selects the source that the display gets video from. So, once I clicked that button and changed the source back to the right one, Voila! The display worked again. Worked for me I was having the exact same problem for awhile. My ASUS VH238 monitor worked on my wife's Toshiba PC (sorry, I do not have the specs with me). I have a 13' Macbook Pro, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion (10.7.4), and the monitor was flickering in and out. Bottom line: What finally worked for me was to just accept that I have to give up 1080p resolution in order to stop the incessant flickering.
After scouring the endless forums dealing with PC troubleshooting and instructions to change the refresh rate to 75 Hz (which is not an option on my machine), I finally decided to just switch to 720p. I have not seen any flickering since. I too am using a third party dongle (even though I purchased it from the Apple Store online) called 'Moshi.' Anyway, my HDMI-HDMI cable works perfectly fine on my LG LCD TV. It is also interesting to note that this very same monitor worked fine using my old MacBook Pro; however, it was through a DVI/VGA connection. I was too lazy to check other Mini port adapters for my new computer, but maybe that's a viable option for you.
